.KEY MESSAGES...

1. Dry conditions and well above average temperatures will
prevail through the week. There is a 55 to 85 percent chance of
triple digit heat across much of the San Joaquin Valley this
afternoon with a 30 to 50 percent chance on Monday.

2. A Heat Advisory remains in effect of the San Joaquin Valley,
West Side Hills and Sierra Foothills through 11 PM PDT tonight.

3. Low afternoon humidity will occur across many locations along
with poor to moderate overnight recoveries in the mountains and
deserts.

4. The Climate Prediction Center (CPC) 6-10 and 8-14 day
temperature outlooks show a 50 to 70 percent chance for above
average temperatures across the region.

.DISCUSSION...
Satellite loops show cumulus cloud buildups over the Sierra
Nevada and a band of mid-level clouds moving inland from the
coast, thanks to an offshore upper-level disturbance. Hot
weather persists, and the hottest days this week are in store
for today and Monday, given the latest probabilities for triple
digit heat (about 55 to 85 percent chance). Lower chances are on
tap for Monday (about 30 to 50 percent), but it won`t be much
better as the latest hot spell drags on, at least in the Central
Valley and the desert portion of eastern Kern County. The
likelihood of yet another daily record high temperature being
tied or broken today is about 75 to 90 percent for areas north
of Kern County in the San Joaquin Valley. Given these
temperatures, low afternoon humidity with some areas of poor to
moderate overnight recovery will continue. An upper- level low
pressure system will approach the coast on Monday which could
lead to a slight chance of afternoon and evening showers in the
highest elevations of the Sierra Nevada.

While the upper-level shortwave trough continues its trek over
the Golden State on Tuesday, above average temperatures will
continue. Also, we won`t see a significant probability (25
percent or better) of a high of 90 degrees or lower until
Thursday.

Temperatures are progged to lower further late this week which
should lead to some rise in humidity, especially in the
overnight and morning hours. Based on latest blended guidance,
the best chance for a high of 85 degrees or lower, at least in
the Central Valley, is during next weekend (as much as a 60
percent probability on Saturday). Highs in the mid-80`s are
closer to seasonal averages, though still a touch warmer.
However, temperatures will likely return towards above average,
based on the latest CPC outlooks. No precipitation remains in
sight for the next seven days.
